I let go of me, a poem by Justin Tuijl

I let go of me

When I was with you
I let go of me
I should have held on
To what I wanted
And not given in.
I did us both no favours
Looking
For the quiet life I desired
But I didn’t have
The energy
To fight
My corner
With one
Who was supposed
To love me
With
The one
Who
Should
Have
Forgiven
Cherished
And
Supported
Me
I gave it all
I never was
Paid in kind
And now
There is nothing
Left to give
As I let go of me
